Atmosphere is everything when I dip into my dark and moody side. Narrowing in on a scene with simple, minimal composition can greatly intensify the moodiness in my shots. With high contrast, muted highlights and colors, and increasing white areas, I can hone a scene. Some of my best landscape photos have been a result of this technique. I use a wide to normal focal length (24mm-85mm) with an f/4-5.6 or narrower. I look for flexibility in lighting and overall tone through my lens. I often use an optical, pixel, or mechanical vignette rather than artificial post process in the Lightroom development.
